Pastor's Corner - Rev. Michael Anthony Carrington Jr.
Rev. Michael Anthony Carrington, Jr., is a native Marylander. Rev. Carrington grew up in the city of Baltimore, Maryland. Although he had prepared himself to attend the School of Law at the University of Baltimore, the Holy Spirit altered his dreams of becoming a lawyer to attend Wesley Theological Seminary in the District of Columbia. At that point, he received his Master of Divinity. Rev. Carrington is seeking a D.Min program in preaching. Rev. Carrington believes preaching merely is telling "The Story!"
Within his first three months into his first year at Wesley, at the age of 25, Rev. Carrington accepted his first charge and was appointed by Bishop Marcus Matthew to serve as the Senior Pastor at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Reisterstown, Maryland. After two years, Rev. Carrington was re-appointed to serve as The senior pastor at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial United Methodist Church by Bishop L. Easterling. Currently, Rev. Carrington serves as Senior Pastor at Eastern United Methodist Church, where he grew up. Rev. Carrington is the youngest Provisional Elder in the Baltimore-Washington Conference.
As mentioned above, Rev. Carrington grew up in Eastern. Rev. Carrington was seven-years-old when he joined Eastern in 1998 under the Senior Pastor at the time, Rev. Constance C Smith. Growing up in Eastern United Methodist Church, Rev. Carrington was extremely active. At Eastern, his first sermon he preached was entitled, "Have Faith." He served as the youngest person on almost every committee and ministry that he was on - the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC), Chaplin for the Youth and Young Adults, and as the youngest member of the Finance team.
Rev. Carrington has a favorite adage as he approaches ministry. He often says, "I am lazy! Not lazy as I do not want to do anything but lazy as I don't particularly appreciate doing anything by myself. Without you, it will be difficult for it to be done." He also understands that it is about togetherness.
Rev. Carrington's sole mission is to be a servant for God where he can pour out everything that God has given him into the lives of others, and return to God to be replenished. He is genuinely a mouthpiece for the Lord. Rev. Carrington is known to spread The Word of God to whomever and wherever. He comes for no demonstration, no form, and no fashion, but only to uplift and glorify God.
Rev. Carrington's much-loved scripture is John 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." Michael is the example that prayer changes things, but the evidence of an undefeatable and loving God. He believes, "A setback is nothing more than a stepping stone for a comeback."
